Brigadier General, Virginia Brigade, George Pickett’s Division

A career officer: veteran of the Seminole Indian campaign and the Mexican War, where he became the good friend of Union General Winfield Scott Hancock. Armistead came from a military family, and served the Federal Army prior to resigning his commission to join the Confederacy.

His uniform of knee length boots, light blue trousers, cadet grey double breasted frock coat with gold braid trim, and black hat are very typical for his rank.
