A fine Great mare named “Brown Beauty”
Paul Revere with his riding cloak, tri-cornered hat, breeches and boots with old fashioned silver Spurs. He also carries a telescope (an embellishment) and a dispatch bag. On the Lexington road he was chased and forced to backtrack by a patrol of Regulars. He went back through Mystic (now Medford) to North Cambridge, then to Monotomy (now Arlington) and galloped “The Great Road” toward Lexington and Concord.
His purpose for riding was to warn Sam Adams and John Hancock, leaders of the Revolutionary Cause, who were avoiding arrest in Boston by staying in the Lexington parsonage of Hancock’s relative, Jonas Clark.
